Richard Schechner and Performance Studies
An International Conference of Scholars and Artists Honoring Richard Schechner on his 76th Birthday
December 19-23, 2010 at the University of Haifa

To mark the occasion of Richard Schechner's 76th birthday, and to celebrate his many achievements, a meeting of scholars and artists from around the world will take place in Israel on December 19-23, 2010. Friends, colleagues and students will honor him with a conference dedicated to his legacy as an experimental theatre director, scholar, editor and writer, as well as to the field he pioneered Performance Studies. In addition to lectures and panel discussions, we would like to present a small selection of performances by Israel's most innovative artists. RS & PS is a collaborative effort of Theatre Departments in three Israeli universities: the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv University, and the University of Haifa, which initiated the project. Additional partners are New York University, where Schechner is University Professor, and TDR: The Drama Review, Tisch School of the Arts/ NYU.
